Some properties offer a home. Others offer a whole new way of life. Tucked away at the end of Ellinjaa Road, just outside Millaa Millaa on the Atherton Tablelands, this remarkable 63.75-hectare property combines rolling green pastures, rainforest, magnificent views towards Bartle Frere and a timber home with a story all its own. Built approximately 34 years ago by a family originally from Bavaria, Germany, this substantial home reflects its European heritage. Timber sourced from the property and milled locally features pine-lined walls and soaring ceilings creating warmth and character rarely found in modern homes. Natural slate floors, timber and block construction is at its core. The enormous living room features a distinctive, hand-built fireplace, whose flue also carries warmth upstairs. Striking timber light fittings add atmosphere, while the generous layout flows to the kitchen and adjoining dining area, with room to gather ten or more around the table. The practical kitchen includes an induction cooktop, rangehood, island bench and a walk-in pantry that deserves a viewing of its own. A downstairs bathroom and spacious laundry and utility room awaits. Covered patios wrap around three sides, inviting you to follow the sunshine, find a shady chair or watch the countryside. From both levels, views stretch across green hills towards the mountains, with a large spring-fed dam below and rainforest framing the landscape. The space and privacy really need to be experienced. Upstairs, the main bedroom measures approximately 7.3x4m, overlooking the verandah and hills beyond. Its walk-in robe is almost a room itself. The whole upstairs is warmed by the fireplace below. The spacious en-suite is recent and easy access. Another oversized bedroom, a large utility room and a loft offer flexibility for family, guests and hobbies. Sections of clear roofing and internal ventilation openings reflect the thought given to light and airflow. The library. Complete with a moving ladder, invites you to put the kettle on, choose a book and forget the time. Equally appealing as a second living room, office or retreat, it adjoins a huge patio nestled above the gardens. Separate from the main house at the end of the verandah, the purpose-built granny flat has the charm of an oversized treehouse. Beautiful windows overlooking the farm, an open bedroom area, children's loft, bathroom and kitchenette welcome extended family or visitors. Many international guests have enjoyed the hospitality, country setting and connection with farm life over the years - i'm sure your famiy will too. Workshops, garages and carports accommodate at least four vehicles, with room for tools, projects, collections and creative pursuits. The old cow bails towards the rear offer further possibilities for storage, workshops or studio space. Guest accommodation and other business ideas may also be explored, subject to relevant approvals. An existing dairy cattle agistment arrangement provides income, with a neighbouring farmer caring for the herd while the cattle enjoy the lush pasture. The owner advises that no commercial fertilisers or pesticides have been used during their ownership, although the property is not certified organic. Around the home, meandering garden paths reveal orchids, unusual shrubs, palms, bananas, tree ferns and shade trees, with colour and surprises around every corner. A pond stocked with goldfish and redclaw (a delicious lunch treat) offers a peaceful spot for morning coffee or an afternoon drink. Edible plants include lemons, oranges, passionfruit, pawpaw, elderberry, avocado and butterfly pea vine for homegrown tea, with ample room for veggie gardens. Scattered seating and generous verandahs provide plenty of places to enjoy it all. Open lawns invite family celebrations, picnics with a view or simply stretching out beneath the sky. As evening approaches, cattle gather on the hillside, the light changes across the paddocks and a beautiful sunset gives way to a vast country night sky. Truly magnificent.
