Tucked away in a fold in the hills, at the end of the line is Walama, a sanctuary from creeping residential sprawl, a perfect antidote to city hassles and a breathing hole to nurture the senses. An architect-designed house, sympathetically repurposing the original building (a settlers' cabin), is set amongst a beautiful, perennial garden developed from an original plan by Michael Bligh. Inspired by Edna Walling, the garden flows seamlessly into the surrounding landscape through the use of parkland-style paddock plantings of both evergreen and deciduous trees. The acreage consists of gently sloping, arable country with ample water from two good dams (one very large with a bird sanctuary island) and a permanent, spring-fed creek which wraps around a significant portion of the boundary.
