A rare opportunity to purchase a piece of Southern Highlands history. In the early 1800's the Chalker Estate gave a parcel of land for a church and cemetery to be built on the site now known as Tarrawonga. After the train line came through Mittagong in 1868 the church moved to town. The land was then transferred to the education department for Lower Mittagong Public School to be built. It remained a school until the end of the 1960's when it was sold into private ownership.
The central part of the main house is comprised of large school rooms including the original school door. Over the years many additions and improvements have been made creating the wonderful and unique home that Tarrawonga is today. Nestled on almost 4 acres with 2 titles, Tarrawonga offers a delightful family retreat for the most discerning of buyers.
The main home features grand living rooms, 12 foot ceilings, sturdy double brick and timber construction and views over the grounds in all directions. There™s a great sense of space and light and an abundance of character.
The front flat is warm and welcoming with its own access and covered verandah.
The cottage has two bedrooms and a large, friendly living area and kitchen, a wonderful spot for viewing the Tarrawonga open matches on the tennis court below.
The grounds are of a fairy tale beauty with numerous tree species, stone walls, lush garden beds, sprawling lawns and a substantial vegetable garden with adjoining chicken house.
A fabulous property surrounded by much larger rural holdings ensuring privacy yet conveniently located close to both Bowral and Mittagong townships.
